Striking A Balance: Family Caregiver Conference

The Striking a Balance: Family Caregiver Conference historic its 20th anniversary with 3-days of webinar way breakout sessions — a Sat in-person, keynote speaker event, luncheon and information and resource fair was rescheduled to Jan. 22, 2022 considering of the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Striking a Balance aids and educates family caregivers, and so they can provide the best possible care for their loved ones and selves. It connects family caregivers with new resources, tools and techniques that improves their total quality of intendance while forging a path to one of the most valuable caregiver resources — each other. The in-person, keynote consequence volition feature Chet Garner, creator, host, executive producer and writer of The Daytripper, a five-time Emmy-award-winning program on PBS. Garner will deliver an inspiring keynote address during dejeuner about finding local respite options and enjoying your life with your loved ones.

Garner was born and raised in Texas and loves storytelling. He brings the same enthusiasm to his speaking events that is seen in "The Daytripper", and aims to create contagious free energy that volition take every attendant walk abroad inspired and excited most Texas, daytripping, and finding their own passion in life. Garner is a graduate of UT-Austin and Baylor Constabulary Schoolhouse. The Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area and AGE of Fundamental Texas held three-days of webinars in Baronial to bring  the Striking a Residual: Family Caregivers Conference into the homes of the region's family caregivers. The virtual portion of the conference provide the caregivers with the same resources in a COVID-xix safe environs. Michael Gill
Texas Senior Living Locators

Michael Gill is the President of Texas Senior Living Locators, which works with families to help them notice the best senior housing options in Central Texas. Gill is a regional expert in senior living options with extensive knowledge in Veterans benefits, home wellness care, not-medical dwelling house care, geriatric care management, long-term care insurance, senior real estate specialists, senior movers, and other senior adult services.

Having earned a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)® designation, Gill stays current on local and national eldercare developments and resources. His corporate background includes banking and finance. As an investment professional in venture capital and on Wall Street, he worked for JP Morgan and Austin Capital Management. Wanting to make a divergence and help families, Gill founded Texas Senior Living Locators in 2012.

Gill first moved to Austin in 1980 to attend graduate school at The University of Texas, where he received his MBA. He graduated from Villanova University with a degree in economic science and history, and studied in Seville, Kingdom of spain, where he became fluent in Spanish. Gill has co-authored two books: Financing and Managing Fast Growth Companies: The Venture Capital Process and The New Concern Incubator: Linking Talent, Engineering science, Capital and Know-How. Gill is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has taken the Texas Assisted Living Manager Courses from the Texas Assisted Living Association.

Sarah Hyde-Williams
Senior Living Advisors of Texas

Sarah Hyde-Williams is passionate about serving seniors and their families in navigating the diverse options offered by the senior housing and eldercare manufacture. She has been an eldercare skillful and community resource through her various roles within assisted living and dementia-supportive communities, along with abode wellness and hospice care. She respects the families she guides through what is often a difficult and overwhelming time, and she becomes a trusted resources and unbiased confidant.

Dr. Barry J. Jacobs
Author and National Columnist

Barry J. Jacobs, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist, family unit therapist and a chief in the Philadelphia Office of Health Management Assembly, a national healthcare consulting firm. A one-time announcer, he is the author of The Emotional Survival Guide for Caregivers (2006) and the co-writer of AARP Meditations for Caregivers (2016). He is the national spokesperson on family caregiving for the American Center Clan and an Honorary Board Member of the Well Spouse Association.

Bob Stephen
Vice President of Family Caregiving and Long-Term Care at AARP

Nancy Turco
Dementia and Caregiving Adept

Nancy Turco has worked with Alzheimer'southward residents and their families for more than 25 years with music therapy and activities. The Hit a Remainder Caregiver Conference brings together local resources and national speakers to assist and educate family caregivers, so they can provide the best possible care for their loved ones and selves. It strives to connect family unit caregivers with new resources, tools and techniques that improves their full quality of intendance while forging a path to one of the virtually valuable caregiver resources — each other. Attending nonprofessional caregivers are invited to share their own experiences with their peers during the conference.

Keynote Speaker Marty Richards MSW, LICSW

Marty Richards, writer of Caresharing: A Reciprocal Approach to Care Giving and Care Receiving in the Complexities of Crumbling Illness or Disability. Richards holds a masters in social work and has worked with older adults and their families for more than 50 years. Richards has taught at the University of Washington School of Social Piece of work and with the Certificate Program in Gerontology for more 30 years and serves on Washington's Dementia Action Collaborative.

Lisa Daly, Family unit Eldercare

Lisa Daly holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Master'southward Degree in Teaching from Binghamton University. She is a Certified Dementia Specialist and has years of experience working in the older adult service industry in a variety of management, caregiver education, and marketing positions. Daly is a master trainer for the national curriculums: Powerful Tools for Caregivers, A Matter of Remainder, and Savvy Caregiver. She recently returned to Family Eldercare as Director of In-Home Care and is a member of the Austin Gay and Lesbian Senior Services team at Family Eldercare dedicated to providing quality treat LGBTQ older adults.

Amy Goyer, AARP Caregiving Expert

Amy Goyer is AARP's national family and caregiving expert and moderates AARP's Family Caregivers Word Group on Facebook. Amy has more than 35 years of professional person experience serving and advocating for older adults, children and families, and people with disabilities. She has been a family caregiver her unabridged adult life, caring for her grandparents, parents, sisters and other relatives and friends. She writes extensively for AARP near her experiences caring for her mother, Patricia, who died in 2013, and her father, Robert, who lived with Alzheimer'southward illness for 12 years earlier his death in 2018. Goyer has written three books and appears regularly as a caregiving authority on network news shows, including more than than a dozen times on NBC's Today. She has been a guest on Dr. Phil and The Doctors and been interviewed by CNN, NPR, the New York Times, the Washington Mail, the Wall Street Periodical, People, and other media outlets.

Virginia Sampson, Attorney at Police force

Virginia Sampson has been an attorney for 34 years. She spent most of her career as a litigation attorney, but also served as a judge. She recently focused her practice on helping older adults, Veterans, and their families. She currently practices Elderberry Police force in the Austin and Primal Texas area. Sampson is accredited with the Veteran'southward Administration to handle claims. She is admitted to exercise law in Texas, Arizona, California and Pennsylvania. Sampson shifted her practice to elder law and estate planning as a result of helping her parents and their friends navigate the crumbling process. She understands the challenges and emotional issues nosotros face as nosotros age. She also lost her hubby to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, and understands what it means to confront a devastating, life changing illness. Sampson gives her clients many years of legal expertise and a deep pity for them as they navigate these difficult life events.
